Mini-Grant Committee

The mini-grant committee was developed a few years ago to provide teachers at Alexander Hamilton with the opportunity to enhance their staff development needs with an eye to the increased development of student learning.  Below are the objectives that have been identified:

    • Support the creation and implementation of innovative ideas at AH.
    • Encourage teachers to think of exciting, engaging and alternative educational practices to assist with the mastery of concepts and required curriculum.
    • Create successful programs that would benefit all students at AH.
    • Develop a sense of teamwork between staff at AH and the parents (HSA).
    • Assist the principal in achieving short and long term goals for AH.
    • Encourage the practice of grant writing with the hope that teachers will also apply to other foundations for funding for educational program enhancements for our children.

The mini-grant committee will review grant requests on a rolling basis and recommends approval based on feasibility, innovation, likelihood of the mastery of the materials, and the ability to “turn-key” the program to other classrooms.  Although most grants have been approved in the past, there have been requests that were denied or that required additional clarification before the committee made a final decision.

The committee members vote on the grant requests and then rotate responsibility for the written responses.  The co-presidents of the HSA have the opportunity for a final review of the request and the recommendation.
