| 1/18/08 - The third graders will be drawing a still life. They should bring in objects that they would like to draw for a still life. Be sure the object is labeled with name and teacher's name. If the object can not stay in the art room, then let me know, and I will take a picture of the object so that the object can go home the same day it is brought in. Thank you!

| CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of the illustration painting contest. The winning pictures are posted here. Every one did a wonderful job, and I was proud of the hard work and effort that was put into the artwork. Trying to narrow the winners down to just a few of you was an incredibly difficult task. Thanks to Jenna Baillod (student teacher), Linda Murphy and Mira Morrison's AP Art Honor high school students for all of their help in judging the paintings. Click here for some pictures from Michael Dooling's visit. |

Grades 3 and 4 December 2007 Homework was assigned by the students this week. If a student completed all the assignments thus far, they were eligible to be the teacher for the week. They are able to assign the homework to the rest of the class, and he or she does not need to do the homework (although he or she would get extra credit if the assignment is done!) Next week they will be able to check the homework.
Belmonte and Lakes class needs to catch up so
they are doing the tracing of contours of objects for homework this week.
Skrod and Horan are catching up and they are
making a picture that expresses a feeling about something they have a
strong emotion about.
Gacki: Nadia - draw your favorite thing
D'Alconzo: Lotta - draw a present that you
would like to get
Curran: Kelly - draw a fairy tale (made up
picture)
Hoffmann: Charlotte - color in the negative
space around the contour drawings from last week
Yorston: Hannah - draw a rock star
Pietersen: Evan - draw a garden, any kind
|
Fifth Graders
By the time they are done with their chore helper, they need to have a final drawing of the artwork with a written description of the purpose of the puppet/robot. Be sure that it is display quality, for we will be putting them up for everyone to see alongside the finished metal creations. |

Third Graders
Trace contours of objects. Choose interesting
objects from around the house to trace around the outside of the object.
Overlap some objects, and do not draw lines inside other traced objects.
You may color, but only color in the negative spaces created, DO NOT color
inside the traced objects.
11/16 - 11/28 They must color in an M.C.Escher tessellation and finish drawing the metamorphosis they started in class.
11/1 - 11/5 Color Quiz - answering the following questions (there was a hand out in class):
What are the primary colors and why are they important?
What are the secondary colors and how do you make them?
Name the warm and the cool colors.
How do you make a color lighter (tint) or darker (shade)?
BONUS: What is a complementary color?
11/14 - 11/16
Color in the color wheel. Make
connections to the color quiz and the purpose of the color wheel.
From last week: Color in a famous artist abstract painting chosen in class. They can see how different artists have chosen to break down the space in a picture, similar to how they have been choosing how to break down the space on their canvas for painting an illustration. For homework, they simply need to choose the color combinations that they feel would work for the abstract lines and shapes they chose, and color the picture in with any media you have available. |
Fourth Graders
There was a handout explaining a process for making an expressive abstract picture. First think of something that you have a strong feeling about. Then think of what colors, lines, shapes, objects could best express that emotion. Third, make a picture that clearly expresses your emotion about a subject. Lastly, write a few words that explain what you made and how it expresses that emotion. 11/16 - 11/28 Fourth grade has to fill out the worksheet on talking about art - Art Criticism in Four simple Steps
11/1 - 11/5
Fourth Graders should be coming to
class the week of 11/1 with the opposite feeling of the one they printed
in class.
11/14 - 11/16
For the week of 11/14 they need to
bring back the chosen design from class. It should be colored in
expressing a mood through the lines and colors used.
From last week: Fourth graders need to do two small pictures. Both pictures are expressing an emotion, not necessarily the same emotion. One picture expresses an emotion by drawing in objects (a face that shows an emotion is one example), the other picture needs to express an emotion without drawing any objects, (simply using lines, shapes and colors to express a feeling). |
Fifth Graders
11/14 - 11/16
Create a template of the chore helper
they designed for homework last week. Add all the details to each
part/shape that will be used to create the helper.
From last week: Fifth graders need to think of something they do not like to do (shouldn't be TOO hard!), but have to do. Then they need to design something/someone that would be able to do that activity for them. Draw the creation for homework. |
